Defense Systems Journal was at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station (GBNS) the week of 15 December 2013 at the invitation of the Office of the Secretary of Defense to cover a Military Commissions motion hearing of accused terrorists Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, Walid Bin 'AttashRamzi Bin al ShibhAli Abdul Aziz Ali; and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.  
 
This pre-trial hearing, years in coming, stems from the charging, on 31 May 2011 and the arraignment, on 5 May 2012, of the five in connection with their alleged leading roles in the September 11, 2001 attacks against the United States. They are charged with committing the following eight offenses: conspiracy; attacking civilians; attacking civilian objects; intentionally causing serious bodily injury; murder in violation of the law of war; destruction of property in violation of the law of war; hijacking or hazarding a vessel or aircraft; and terrorism.
